M5 East traffic analysis : working paper no. 2 : analysis of options : final report

This working paper examines the traffic and transport implications of a range of options to extend the M5 Motorway eastwards from King Georges Road to the east of the Princes Highway. This paper describes likely land use changes that will influence travel in the M5 East Corridor. It then goes on to estimate future traffic demands on the corridor and to assess the likely effects of such traffic on various options for development of the M5 East. The forecasting of future travel demands is a complicated process because of the number of variables that influence travel. This paper accordingly starts out by describing the methods used to forecast and model future traffic levels. Section 2 describes the methodology used in this Working Paper. The expected travel demand changes in the future are described in Section 3. Section 4 looks at the motorway options. In Section 5, the results of the options analysis are set out. Section 6 presents the conclusions to the investigation.
