The proposal is to upgrade the existing Main Road 92 alignment between Nowra and Nerriga over a distance of approximately 62km. The upgrade will involve sealing the existing gravel track to a two lane carriageway with shoulders and straightening the existing alignment in a number of locations to make the design safer. There are two rural villages along the route, Nerriga and Sassafras. In the short term the new route will stay on the existing alignment through the township of Nerriga. Through Sassafras the existing road will be widened. The most significant realignment will take place at Bulee Gap on the western border of the Morton National Park to achieve a proposed design speed of 80km/hour. At the northern end of the proposed upgrade, the road will move away from MR92 and join to the Nowra Motorcross access track, west of HMAS Albatross and hence through a planned industrial park. The proposed upgrade will finish at the intersection of Albatross Road and Braidwood Road in Nowra.
