Proportion of NSW Aboriginal students at or above the NMS for reading and numeracy (2008-2018)

NSW Department of Education

The National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests are conducted in May for all students across Australia in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The national minimum standard (NMS) is the agreed minimum acceptable standard of knowledge and skills without which a student will have difficulty making sufficient progress at school.

Students whose results are in the lowest band for the year level have not achieved the NMS for that year.

Data Notes:

  • Students who are exempt from NAPLAN are deemed to be ‘below’ the NMS and are included in the denominator for calculating the percentage at or above the NMS.
  • This data includes all NSW schools and not just NSW government schools.
  • This is a state-level dataset.
  • Data is provided at the individual domain and cohort level.
